Redevelopment

The redevelopment of the Levenshulme URC church building began in March 2009.

The redevelopment involves demolishing the old ‘Sunday School’ and replacing it with a modern, glass-fronted building which will house the reception and Inspire Café on the ground floor and apartments above. It also involves significant refurbishment of the church building itself making space for the Inspire Suite, incubation centre and community meeting rooms on the ground floor, ALLFM radio station on the first floor, and apartments on the floors above. The two buildings will be joined at ground-floor level and linked by a glazed bridge on the first floor.

The entire redevelopment will cost nearly £3million. It is being funded from a number of sources: the Housing Corporation, the Big Lottery Fund, Great Places Housing Association, Manchester City Council and the United Reformed Church. Nearly all of the funding is in place but the project still needs around £200,000.

The construction is being carried out under a ‘Design & Build’ contract with CSC Construction. The architects for the scheme are TADW Architects who are based locally in Stockport.
